Karibooo

After finding a box of old coins my father left me when he died in 2006 I looked on the net to see if they had any value and discovered this site.

There are too many to mention now but I am particulalry interested in finding out the value of one coin, a George III guninea 1768.

It appears on this site that it is quite valuable but I find this hard to imagine as that sort of luck does not happen to me. If it is of value how do I go about selling this?

I hope someone can help me and thank you in advance.

bonsoir kariboo,

my suggestion is share this information on the 'coin' forum where it will grab the most attention and expert advice. we have a person, rogermo, who is quite adept with information on this sort of thing. and another, coinandstampman. both are very good at evaluations. and are in your native country. hope this helps.

amities,
cajunsr.

Are you sure it really is a guinea ? Is it made of gold or brass ?
There were a lot of gaming tokens made to look like guineas .
If it is genuine, it is listed in the catalogue at between £900 and £5,000 depending on condition.

If you aren’t sure if it is gold or brass, look at the inscription. Around the portrait , it will probably be correct (Georgius III Dei Gratia), but round the shield it might be wildly different .
It should be:
M. BR ET H REX FD B ET L D SRI AT ET E
(which means « Of Great Britain and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith, Of Brunswick and Lüneburg Duke, Of the Holy Roman Empire Arch Treasurer and and Elector).

If this seems correct, get someone to tell you if it is gold or brass. If it’s gold, tell us.
